Spain has the sovereign right to choose its migration policies, but those policies operate within a system where the consequences extend beyond its borders. Madrid cannot pursue its own approach independently and then claim neighboring states are failing to show solidarity when they take measures to manage the impact on their own countries.
If Madrid believes it needs to shift responsibility externally to address domestic political pressure, it should reevaluate its own priorities or develop stronger cooperative agreements with its neighbors before another crisis of this scale occurs.
