According to Kenyan authorities, the Eurocopter EC-130 B4 was carrying seven people when it went down near Mount Ololokwe in Samburu County. Sensi-Contugi was traveling with his wife, fashion designer Stephany Sensi, who was also killed. Telemundo executive José Suárez was among the American fatalities.
The helicopter was reportedly carrying guests from the luxury safari operator &Beyond and had been traveling from the Loisaba wildlife conservancy toward the Ewaso Ngiro River. The cause of the crash has not been determined.
Kenyan Red Cross teams conducted search and recovery operations at the site, which were complicated by difficult terrain and an active fire. Kenya’s Transport Ministry is investigating.
The U.S. State Department confirmed the deaths of the five Americans and said the U.S. Embassy was coordinating with Kenyan authorities and providing consular assistance.
