Gulf states are pressing Iraq’s new PM to disarm the pro-Iranian militias after months of militia attacks against them, a Baghdad political source tells Kan News. GCC Secretary-General Jassem al-Budaiwi recently presented Baghdad officials with detailed data on those attacks. The Gulf push adds to U.S. pressure to collect the militias’ weapons. PM Ali al-Zaidi met Trump in Washington and set an end-of-September target to disarm them. Iran and the militias have no intention of complying, and the fight is ongoing.
