Visible commercial traffic through the Strait of Hormuz remains far below the normal average of 130+ ship transits per day. Fewer than a dozen vessels completed the transit over the past 24 hours, all utilizing the Iranian traffic separation scheme, with no visible traffic using the U.S.-established southern route through Omani waters. While some ships may be transiting with automatic identification system (AIS) transponders disabled and therefore are not visible on  MarineTraffic.com, the observable data indicates commercial shipping through one of the world’s most important maritime chokepoints remains severely disrupted amid the escalating conflict.

MORE 🧵(1/3): Iran struck at least three vessels, including two Emirati tankers, on July 13 that were attempting to transit through the strait via the southern route along Oman’s coast. The Iranian attacks killed one crew member and wounded eight others. Iran has repeatedly used force to try to deter vessels from using the alternative traffic separation scheme along Oman’s coast because traffic through this route undermines Iranian efforts to assert full control over traffic in the strait. US Central Command (CENTCOM) announced on July 13 that it conducted another wave of strikes against Iranian military targets that Iran used to threaten shipping in the strait.
