According to the Miami Herald, President Donald J. Trump reportedly gave Venezuela’s President Nicolás Maduro an ultimatum to relinquish power and immediately leave the country during their phone call last month, offering safe passage for Maduro, his wife and his son, but “only if he agreed to resign right away.” However, Maduro allegedly made a series of counter-demands, including worldwide immunity from prosecution and being allowed to cede political control but keep control over the Venezuelan Armed Forces, with this being the last direct contact between the two leaders, despite Maduro reportedly requesting a second call this past weekend after a post from President Trump, which declared the closure of the airspace over Venezuela.
