JOSSICA - jossica.comThe Trump Administration sent several members of the U.N. Security Council a draft resolution on Monday regarding the establishment of an international force in the Gaza Strip, which would provide the United States and other participating countries a broad mandate to govern Gaza and provide security through the end of 2027, officials have told Axios.
Officials have stressed that the International Security Force (ISF) described in the resolution and mandate will be an “enforcement force and not a peacekeeping force,” involving troops from several participating countries and established in consultation with the Gaza “Board of Peace,” which will be chaired by President Donald J. Trump.
The ISF would be tasked with securing Gaza’s borders with both Israel and Egypt, protecting civilians and humanitarian corridors, and training a new police force manned by Palestinians, with which it’s to partner in its mission. According to Axios, the draft resolution additionally states that the ISF would, “stabilize the security environment in Gaza by ensuring the process of demilitarizing the Gaza Strip, including the destruction and prevention of rebuilding of military, terror, and offensive infrastructure, as well as the permanent decommissioning of weapons from non-state armed groups,” specifically Hamas.
