Chinese President Xi Jinping exchanged New Year greetings with Russian President Vladimir Putin on Tuesday, December 31. According to the Chinese leader, the two countries are moving “hand in hand,” reports Xinhua.
The Chinese news agency quoted Xi Jinping as saying that China and Russia “always move forward hand in hand along the right path of non-alliance, non-confrontation, and not targeting any third party.”
The Chinese president added that political “mutual trust” and strategic coordination between their countries “continuously marched to a higher level under the strategic guidance of the two leaders.”
Xi Jinping also emphasized that China and Russia “support each other as chairs of the BRICS mechanism and the Shanghai Cooperation Organization, contributing significantly to solidarity and cooperation among the Global South.”
Furthermore, the Chinese leader expressed his readiness to maintain “close exchanges” with Putin and to align their cooperation in order to “continue consolidating and deepening China-Russia ties featuring permanent good-neighborly friendship, comprehensive strategic coordination, and mutually beneficial cooperation.”
Notably, in May, Putin and Xi Jinping agreed to deepen bilateral ties between their countries and cooperate on matters of mutual interest, such as Taiwan and Ukraine, and countering their common adversary, the United States.
Earlier today, it was also reported that North Korean leader Kim Jong Un sent New Year greetings to Russian President Putin.
