We collected zooplankton sam-ples from three randomly chosen locations of the mesocosms, which represented different vertical layers, hence resulting in a depth- integrated sample. We preserved zooplankton samples in 70% ethanol. We counted and identified zooplankton with an inverted microscope at 20× magnification.
