I got tired of nuisance smoke detector alarms in my kitchen, but I realized that it is important to keep one there. I purchased commercial 120VAC only smoke detectors (no battery backup) and I wired them through a switch with a red LED indicator light. When cooking causes the detector to sound, I walk down the hallway and flip the switch.
