Both. The cutout is inexplicably widest right between my sit bones, and narrows as it moves forward. The saddle itself is squishy, so my sit bones sink into the saddle a bit. That puts pressure on my soft tissue and forces it to adapt to the narrow part of the cutout. It’s ok for an hour, but long rides are excruciating.
