Artifact of the Week: Concealed Compass
OSS officers going into harm’s way had a variety of ingenious places to hide small, even miniature, compasses for escape and evasion – such as in cufflinks and uniform buttons, pictured here.
Intelligence devices often had to be concealed to keep the officer from arousing suspicion.
