Israeli officials say the footage was uncovered three months ago by IDF troops searching the European Hospital in Khan Younis, a site where Mohammed Sinwar had also stayed. The video was later processed and delivered to the hostages’ families about six weeks afterward.
According to Israeli media and intelligence assessments, the six captives were believed to have been held in a Hamas-run detention facility in the Rafah tunnel network. Those tunnels were demolished in late August as Israeli forces seized control of the area during the offensive.
