Artifact of the Week: OSS Wax Seal Embosser
Used for hot-wax embossing, this tool has “OFFICE OF STRATEGIC SERVICES, UNITED STATES GOVERNMENT” and the OSS seal engraved on it. When applied to hot wax used to seal an envelope, it would imprint the official OSS seal into the wax.
The OSS was a predecessor to the modern CIA, and paved the way for the establishment of a professional intelligence agency.
