@SpiesVespers: TOO OBSCURE TO MATTER Sarah Van Deman, wife of the head of military intelligence, was the first American woman to fly in an airplane in US. She went up with Wilbur Wright in 1909 for flight that lasted 4 minutes and reached a top speed of 60 mph.
