@MilHistNow: Today in 1900, the U.S. Navy commissions its first modern submarine, the USS Holland (SS-1). With a crew of six, it can dive to a maximum depth of 75 feet. It’ll be decommissioned in 1905 and later exhibited in various museums until 1932 when it’s broken up and sold for scrap.
